Kenya weighs Chinese get extradition of 76 held for cyber crime

Kenya is contemplating a request via Beijing to extradite 76 Chinese nationals billed with cyber crime for trial inside their homeland, Kenya's attorney-general said on Thursday.

Githu Muigai said he expected a determination soon on the request from the "friendly government" along with which Kenya provides strong trade as well as industrial ties.

Some 76 Chinese nationals are already detained by Kenyan law enforcement officials investigating allegations involving cyber crime, operating private airwaves services and being near you illegally, their attorneys said on Dec. 5.

"We have received requests from the government of China, the industry friendly government, to surrender these persons being prosecuted for offences in China... A conclusion will be produced in the very near future, " Muigai advised reporters in Geneva.

Any agreement must meet Kenya's justice standards, he said, adding their supposed criminality involved "the stability of banking, charge cards and other operations".

"I would not necessarily be surprised if most of the persons arrested have been mere operatives as well as who probably couldn't attract a sentence in your essay beyond five many years, " he additional.

"But there usually are major masterminds involving what the China government itself has stated being international criminal aspects. And obviously all-around them there could well be more serious prices and probably more severe penalties. "
